BIG TRIP to POLAND

Join us this winter to a journey to this much under-appreciated central European country, to get to know it's culture, landscapes, and urbanism - there is a lot to see! As part of the yearly BIG TRIP, we will explore the capital Warsaw, the centre of the polish coal industry Katowice, and the historically important city of Krakow.

This is not just simply a leisure trip. We want to learn something from the local contexts we visit, to refresh our view on landscape architecture and urbanism, and to share our experiences with the community in BK. This year our gaze is upon the coal extraction landscapes around Katowice, the European energy transition, and how the local people navigate through their urban contexts in the face of this conflict. On the trip we will gather materials and insights, and afterwards assemble and synthesise our findings into an exhibition to be displayed at the Urbanism graduation show (June 2025).

The sign-up fee for this trip is:

350 €*

To be paid before: 16. December 2024, otherwise you lose your spot.

This includes travel to/from Poland and within, accommodations, and public transport. It does not include food, gear, souvenirs etc. We are also actively searching sponsors, and any excess money will be returned to you after the trip.

Thu 06.02.25 Excursion to the coal landscape of Katowice, visit Guido coal mine, travel to Krakow

Fri 07.02.25 Visit Krakow, (maybe) visit Krakow university

Sat 08.02.25 Last day! Return to the Netherlands*

*We will organize plane tickets for the group. However, due to popular demand, we also offer the possibility that you arrange a different journey to get there, e.g. a train connection via Berlin (duration approx. 15h), so in the sign-up form you can select whether you want to opt out of the plane travel group. In that case the sign-up fee is reduced.
